Mr. Fred Jack McClendon passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010, at his residence. He was 81.

Mr. McClendon was a native of Scottsboro and a 1947 graduate of Scottsboro High School, after which he joined the United States Army. He served with distinction in the Korean War and earned three bronze stars. He graduated from the University of Tampa in 1954 and embarked on a 40-year business career with the Tampa Electric Company and Altec Industries, where he served as regional manager. After his retirement in 1994 he returned home to Scottsboro.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Holland McClendon, of Scottsboro; children Paula Van Cuyk of Clarksville, TN; Carin Bowman of Madeira Beach, FL; Todd McClendon of Newnan, GA; Tommy McClendon of St. Marys, GA; Joey McClendon of Seminole, FL; stepchildren Deborah Crawford, Tracy Holland Wallingsford, and Jimmy Holland, both of Scottsboro; numerous grandchildren and great-granchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Dimple Hess McClendon; his first wife, Connie Byars McClendon; brothers George Jr. and Bill McClendon; sister Betty Clark; and stepsons David and Lee Holland.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11 A.M. at Center Point Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Hobbs and Dr. Steve Screws officiating. Pallbearers are Todd McClendon, Tommy McClendon, Joey McClendon, Chris Van Cuyk, Vince Bowman, Jimmy Holland, and Ronnie Crawford. Classmates of the Scottsboro High Class of 1947 will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday, November 5, 2010 from 6 P.M. till 8 P.M. at Scottsboro Funeral Home.
