Dr. Joe G. Cromeans, age 82, of Scottsboro passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Huntsville Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 2 p.m. from Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of service.

Dr. Cromeans is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Cromeans of Scottsboro; two sons, Gray Cromeans of Scottsboro and Randall Cromeans of Nashville, Tenn.; sister, Madge Shaw of Starkville, Miss; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Eva Cromeans; brothers, Battle and John W. "Bill" Cromeans; and sister, Janalou Willson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

In 2003, Dr. Cromeans was honored for 50 years of practice at a meeting of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. He and his wife moved to Scottsboro in February 1957. "I think I am addicted to helping people," Cromeans said when asked what had kept him in practice as a doctor. Cromeans delivered more than 4,000 babies and performed countless surgeries on patients in Jackson County and surrounding areas.
