April 19, 1913 ~ December 1, 2010

Opal Wright Peters of Scottsboro, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 of Millennium Nursing and Rehab Center in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born April 19, 1913 in Aspel, Alabama. She was 97.

She attended Erlanger School of Nursing from 1939 -1941 and married Robert Edward Dick Peters on September 29, 1945.

Worked for Dr. E Julian Hodges over 50 years and helped deliver over 1,000 babies during that period. Lived an worked in Scottsboro over 60 years. Was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Scottsboro. Was a proud member of the kitchen crew at First United Methodist Church for over 20 years. Also a member of CASA and various other local agencies. Delivered Meals on Wheels until she was well into her late 80’s.

She is survived by one son Mack Peters and wife Kathy of Asheboro, NC, two Grandchildren; Emily Peters of St. Louis, MO and Scott Peters of Tuscaloosa, Al. and niece; Martha Hooper of Union Grove, Al

A loving caregiver Dianne Holderfield of Union Grove, Al and several other nieces and nephews.

One sister in law Octavia Floyd of Sheffield, Al

Predeceased by her husband Robert Edward “Dick” Peters and parents Elmer and Mamie Wright and three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 3, 2010 at 1 P.M. at Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Steven Screws officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Woodville, Alabama. The family will receive friends Friday, December 3, 2010 from 10:30 A.M. until the start of the service at 1 P.M. at the funeral home.
